Currently Coveting: Music Edition

Music is such a huge part of my life, I’m shocked that I’ve never really spoken about it on this blog! I couldn’t imagine my life without music. There isn’t a moment when a track or rhythm isn’t playing in my head. I listen to pretty much everything (except country) and the more I learn about music theory, the more I love music. I thought I would share a few artists/albums, both new and old, that I’ve been really adoring lately.

amAM by The Arctic Monkeys  — this album was released a few days ago and I can’t get enough of it. Seriously, just go check it out. I’ve linked a youtube video of the entire album.

the wild youthAll of Daughter‘s music – amazing vibes. She’s been around for a while but I recently came across her music and I absolutely adore it. A lot of it is mellow and sad, but it’s truly chilling and beautifully orchestrated. Her lyrics are incredibly honest and raw.

Explosions In The Sky – I absolutely adore instrumentals, and this band has six whole albums of them. Their songs and quite long and the music is written in a narrative style, without lyrics. I think I could listen to them forever. My current favorite song of theirs is Your Hand In Mine.

I love being introduced to new music, so tell me your favorite song or artist and I’ll give it a listen!

Writing: Daily Poetry Challenge

In the spirit of flexing my writing muscles for this year’s NaNoWriMo (and possibly also my Advanced Writing portfolio this year) I’ve been doing a daily poetry challenge. I began in July, writing one poem every day. I’ve missed a few here or there, but on the whole I’ve really enjoyed it and I’ve decided to share a few with you guys! They’re basically rough first drafts but I’ve received a fair amount of positive feedback and I enjoy writing in this “slam poetry” style.

The poem that inspired this whole challenge!

Travels: Block Island

We trekked down 172 stairs and a steep rock face to get to this beach, and it was full of these unreal seven-foot-tall rock piles!

My family had never been to Block Island, RI before, so we booked a last-minute, three day trip. It was such a quaint, peaceful area–you can bike across the entire island in an hour. I’d love to go back for a day trip or an overnighter at some point.

P1120100 P1120115 P1120105 P1120097I’m beyond psyched for fall fashion. All I need to do is find a few good flannels and a suitable jean jacket and I’ll be all set! This outfit is made up entirely of purchases I’ve made this summer, most of which will carry over to my autumn wardrobe.

jacket: h&m / long sleeved crop shirt: pacsun / high-waisted shorts: american apparel / sneakers: adidas / necklace: claire’s / puzzle ring: pepi (via the new york renaissance faire) / saints bracelet: gifted
